Prototype Rough Draft

OK I finished a rough draft of the prototype

More details can be found here.

There are a few things, I want to add or change (besides animation, back end, and polishing it up):

1. when you mouse over the photo thumbnail, the color filter is removed or fades out
2. add maintenance sections
3. add real logos and icons

Directions to each frame

1. Guest Page - click on submit
2. Home Page - click on a nick name on the right under My Friends
3. CoolnikName2005's albums - click on a photo
4. Florida album - click on a photo
5. Boat Picture -
click on the photo to enlarge
click on the comments window (on the border most likely)
6. Comments - couldn't get post to go back to the previous frame (Boat Picture)
7. Enlarged photo - click on photo to go back to the Boat Picture Page

Most titles should go back to their frames etc.

Color Schemes

I have decided on a few color scheme ideas. I looked at some teen girl magazines to get ideas. (yeah that was fun :-/).
I looked at Seventeen, People, among others. I also took a look at some websites like YM, Seventeen, Teen Mag, and Teen People.
Here is a list, of what seem like the best color schemes:
  1. Light Pastel (Triad) Blue with Yellow and Red
    (very similar to magazines)

  2. Pastel (Tetrad) Red with Green, Orange, and Blue

  3. Contrast Blue (Tetrad) with Orange, Green, and Magenta

  4. Contrast Magenta (Tetrad) with Green, Orange, and Blue
    (very similar to web sites)

First of the number of colors needs to be more than two, I'd say because they media seem to emphasis color quite a bit (hence Triads and Tetrads). Saturation and Chroma tend to also be high making Pastels or Contrasting Schemes an easy choice. From magazines the blue, magenta, yellow-orange combo is surprisingly consistent throughout, except for the occasional special color for a special section. The websites on the other hand tend to gravitate towards the magenta and orange for some reason but still have a high amount of colors and saturation.

Please post any comments if you have any, Thanks.

Safari Issue

Fixed some Safari issue on the project page. Apparently Safari is not very good at taking XHTML 1.1 (with application/xhtml+xml header) or very good at utilizing the CSS. See for yourself.

The web site should work perfectly on IE 6, FireFox 1, Opera 7, or NS 7.2. If not email me.

Intergrating Flash and XML

Found this article on Macromedia Support Pages. It's a tutorial about setting up an secure IMEX flash web site. It has some interesting ideas about authentication pretty much the same as mine.

Take a gander.

Photos for the Masses

Check out this news story on msnbc. Really interesting aspect of photo album sharing on the web.

They point out the importance of quick access and storytelling through these photo site. The only thing I am skeptical about is the use of blogs. People are a bit too enthusiastic about blogs, right now, and combining blogs with photos can be overdone.
